In their final year of their degree, Media and Communications students are given the opportunity to work on a real-world project, updating the Brisbane Media Map. A site dedicated to mapping and analysing Brisbane’s local media industry, the site provides an invaluable resource for students searching for internships and businesses seeking other services. 2010 marked the 10th anniversary of the project, and I was appointed the Marketing and Planning co-ordinator to supervise the overhaul and launch of the new site.
In my role I was responsible for managing three separate teams – the events, media and communications and strategic initiatives groups. As co-ordinator it was my responsibility to devise the strategic marketing plan for Version 10, and decide the look and feel the site would take. After conducting some primary audience research I devised a target audience statement and created a GANTT chart that would dictate all tasks for each team in the lead-up to the launch. I then liaised with suppliers, designed the invitation, negotiated for guest speakers (politician Andrew Bartlett), managed the invitation list and drove the promotion of the new version.
The event was a success, attracting over 80 industry members, and I was awarded Outstanding Graduating Student in the student award section of the evening.
